Darkness. That's the only thing you can see for a few moments. Maybe it should be peaceful, but your stomach rolls and crashes against your ribs like violent waves. The first specks of color that dot your vision are red, blue, yellow. Then there's green, and orange, and so on.

It should just feel like a dream.

It doesn't.

It doesn't, because you're waking up somewhere adjacent to your childhood. Somewhere still too faraway from home to cure the homesickness fluttering in your gut. This is a place that used to be a safe space from the world that beat you down, but n̵o̵w̷...
